Welcome to the Edtech incubator – the UK and Europe’s first education technology accelerator programme led by The Education Foundation, in partnership with the Tech City Investment Organisation.
We are looking to help support new startups but also help to create the national ecosystem and the conditions for educators and entrepreneurs from schools, colleges, universities and from more established companies, to grow and take their ideas to scale. As Reid Hoffman, CEO of Linkedin recently said: “First mover advantage doesn’t go to the company that starts up, it goes to the company that scales up”.
For over a decade in the USA and other fast moving economies globally, we have watched as education innovation systems have been developed – from a mixture of foundation, corporate, venture capital and entrepreneurial support. Yet in the UK and Europe the ‘edtech’ system has been slower to take on and incubate educators and entrepreneurs who have the vision to change the way education and learning is delivered.
So now the time has come – for the education entrepreneur, the student and teacher innovator, the game changers. Ben Southworth, Deputy CEO of Tech City Investment Organisation put it succinctly “Create the space for entrepreneurs to operate and they will find the solutions”. So its our job to help support these people, projects and organisations and take them up to scale.
